Nex, maker of the award-winning basketball training app HomeCourt, is branching out into a new world of motion-based entertainment. We’re a group of deeply experienced former Apple, Google, and Facebook innovators that build rich, engaging and gamified experiences using ground-breaking AI and computer vision technology.
We’re combining the digital and physical worlds to help everyone move their bodies, and have fun while they do it. Through advanced AR experiences, we’re developing immersive gameplay where players can use their bodies as if they’re in a video game. We’re seeking a motivated and passionate multidisciplinary game designer to help grow NEX Team by pushing the boundaries of physical gaming on mobile devices. Our team members should demonstrate a real passion for games with a strong attention to detail, be inventive, adaptable, creative, and results-oriented with high energy and a positive attitude.

As Game Designer, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future of interactive physical gaming, and learn directly from seasoned designers and product leaders. From brainstorming through implementation, the Game Designer will collaborate directly with company leadership, as well as our engineering, marketing, and operations partners. You’ll design, own, and champion game concepts and structures. You will need to be effective in a fast-paced, high-growth, startup environment and be expected to demonstrate unwavering attention to theme, quality, and the needs of our players.
Powers
Hardcore gamer that understands game design inside and out
Can manage level layouts from paper to completion
Can work alongside designers, artists, and engineers to create engaging experiences
Owns the creation of level design, reward mechanisms, and gameplay mechanics from paper to scripting to prototyping and final implementation
Manages all aspects of game design including paper maps, block-outs, and iterative feedback cycles
Works collaboratively, designing and shipping games in a rapid iterative cycle
Can set, prioritize, and communicate game goals and needs to team members
Understands the limitations that come with mobile hardware and web-based games
Working knowledge of scripting and building in Unity
Skills
Ability to multi-task and adapt easily to change
Collaborates well with cross-functional teams and peers
Is self-motivated and eager to strive for excellence
Ability to interact & communicate effectively

Experience creating animations or VFX
XP
A bachelor's degree in Game Art & Design or equivalent experience
A minimum of 3 years experience in game development
Shipped at least one AAA title or casual game
